Sanya is planning a number of projects to spur the development of the tourism industry in Haitang Bay. Construction on the newest tourism-oriented project – the Sanya Eyot development is underway in Haitang Bay.
Builders broke ground on the project on August 24th, 2017. The project will make up an important part of the wider Sanya duty-free shopping complex. The development will occupy a construction area of more than 63,000 square meters. It will be situated on the reclaimed Hexin Island and surrounded by the area's luxury international hotels and natural attractions.
The mixed-use tourism development will feature a multi-layered environment, with clusters of small-scale buildings that will create a series of indoor and outdoor spaces for entertainment, leisure, and retail programming. Buildings will be connected by a succession of elevated walkways and bridges.
With a pedestrian bridge connecting to the Sanya duty-free shopping complex, Sanya Eyot development will add a new highlight to this popular tourism site. Currently, the area attracts domestic and international visitors with international luxury hotel cluster and picturesque natural assets.
A range of activity zones for children is included in the scheme, as well as art displays, water shows, cultural performances, recreational attractions, wellness programs.

The whole project is scheduled to commence by the end of 2018.
