The Ruins of St. Paul's are the ruins of the front wall of St. Paul's Church. St. Paul's Church is attached to St. Paul's College. The college, established in 1594 and ended in 1762, was the first Western university in the Far East. In 1595, 1601 and 1835, there were three fires that burned the church, leaving only the front wall of the church, most of its foundation and the stone steps before the church. Since then, this place has become the world famous St. Paul's Church ruins. Locals name it Sandaba Paifang because the front wall of the church is like the traditional Chinese Paifang (arch). The Chinese and Western stone wall is unique among the Catholic churches of the world.
