American Airlines will eliminate change fees long-term for all international flights. The move will apply for all American tickets except basic economy fares.
American is the first global U.S. carrier to announce the end of change fees across its network.
The move follows the August decision by American, along with United, Delta and Alaska, to eliminate change fees long-term on domestic tickets except for basic economy fares. American also announced at that time that it would do away with its $200 change fee on international travel within the Americas and the Caribbean.
Airlines around the world had already suspended change fees during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Also on Thursday, American announced that it will not reinstate its $35 fee for reserving a flight via a phone reservation agent. That fee too has been suspended during the pandemic.
