【Introduction】:Wales is set to ease lockdown by reopening its borders to English holidaymakers from July 6 - with commercial bookings opening from July 13 for self-contained accommodation like static caravans, holiday cottages and some hotels

Holidays in Wales are set to restart from Monday 6 July as the country officially reopens its border to tourism.

First Minister Mark Drakeford today announced the country will scrap its "stay local" guidance from that date, if the science allows it.

That will let people travel - including from England - for day trips or to accommodation they own in the country, depending on rules by then.

Dependent on a review, tourism businesses will then be able to take commercial bookings from a week later - Monday 13 July.

That will allow people to stay in 'self-contained' accommodation such as cottages, static caravans, and hotels where social distancing can be kept.

But it's understood campsites and hostels - anywhere with shared sleeping or bathroom facilities - will remain shut with no date to reopen yet.

The announcement - after months of Wales' borders effectively being closed to English people - comes as Mr Drakeford prepares to announce the latest stage of lockdown easing today.
