On May 20, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 2 new cases of confirmed infections (1 imported case in Guangdong province and 1 indigenous case in Shanghai municipality), 1 new case of suspected infections (an imported case in Shanghai), and no deaths. 5 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 308 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. There still remained 84 confirmed cases (including 8 in serious condition) and 7 suspected cases. So far, 740,967 people have been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 4,864 are now under medical observation. On May 20, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 31 new asymptomatic cases (including 3 imported cases). 24 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (all are indigenous cases) and no asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on May 20, 375 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 29 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on May 20, 1,540 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 1,055 in Hong Kong (4 had been dead and 1,026 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 45 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 440 in Taiwan (7 had been dead and 402 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
