Edinburgh Fringe Festival is one of the world's biggest festivals, which has been held for over 60 years, every year in August, it is held slightly earlier than the Edinburgh International Festival. The Fringe story dates back to 1947, when eight theatre groups turned up uninvited to perform at the (then newly formed) Edinburgh International Festival, an initiative created to celebrate and enrich European cultural life in the wake of the Second World War. Not being part of the official programme of the International Festival didn’t stop these performers – they just went ahead and staged their shows on the ‘Fringe of the Festival’ anyway – coining the phrase and our name ‘(Edinburgh) Festival Fringe’. Year on year more and more performers followed their example and in 1958 the Festival Fringe Society was created in response to the success of this growing trend. Today, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival has grown into the world's top performing arts festival with prominent theatrical performances.

Fringe Festival marks the frontier, creative, folk, progressive, diverse collection of art, Fringe believes that creativity is unbounded. During the event, arts will be out of galleries, concert halls and will grow freely in a variety of urban spaces. Corners between buildings or empty spaces in the street can serve as the palace of art. Parks, shopping malls, cafes, and plazas, anyplace can be a stage for performances.
