[Highlights] WTCF to Release Its Latest Research Result — World Tourism Cities Development Report (2021)

The World Conference on Tourism Cooperation and Development 2022, themed on "Deepening Cooperation and Innovation for Development" and organized by the World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF), will open in Beijing on 1 September. As one of WTCF's most important research documents, the World Tourism Cities Development Report (2021) will be released during the conference. In 2021, the global tourism industry showed a gradual recovery, but COVID-19 still exerted a visible impact on tourism, and the recovery was slow and fragile. By introducing this report, WTCF aims to offer a more comprehensive and vivid picture of the development of the major world tourism cities and the tourism industry in 2021, and to share more experiences for the comprehensive recovery of the world tourism cities and the global tourism industry.

On the basis of maintaining the continuity of the basic framework and data of previous development reports, the study has been conducted by adjusting the index system according to the actual situation of the development of world tourism, and continuing to focus on the 100 sample cities in the world, which are the observation and analysis objects of the study, such as Beijing, Tokyo, Sydney, Madrid, Cairo and Dubai. From the three perspectives, namely the comprehensive evaluation of 2021 world tourism cities development, comprehensive rankings of 2021 world tourism cities development, and individual rankings of 2021 world tourism cities development, it comprehensively summarizes the 2021 development features of tourism policies adopted in major world tourism cities and new development trends of world tourism cities amidst the pandemic. Moreover, in accordance with the present context, it offers solutions to and suggestions on enhancing all-round development of world tourism cities and contributes to sustainable world tourism development.

Since its foundation in 2012, WTCF has been organizing relevant experts to continuously study the evaluation system of world tourism cities. Hence, it has gradually formed a set of scientific and effective evaluation methods. Meanwhile, WTCF has been opportunely summarizing successful development experiences of tourism cities, vigorously promoting the advanced ideas of world tourism development, robustly facilitating cooperation and communication among world tourism cities, effectively enhancing the strategic values of tourism cities in world tourism development, accelerating the characteristic, convenience-centered and streamlined development of world tourism cities, and constantly injecting new impetus into sustainable world tourism development.
