Harbin: Featured Buildings in 'Music City'

Harbin, the capital of Heilongjiang Province, is a city situated in the northernmost province of China. Harbin had the earliest access to European classical music. It also is the home to China's oldest symphony orchestra, the Harbin Symphony Orchestra. The city also is renowned for its Central Street, a European-style street that combines music and architecture and where a 1,000-piano concert was held in 2006, which set a Guinness World Record. The New Harbin Concert Hall is Located in Golden River Park in Qunli New District, occupying a total construction area of 36,109 square meters and a total height of 30 meters. It contains a 1200-seat big hall, a 400-seat small hall. The concert hall is designed with the overall modeling of "Floating Ice Crystal". This design concept is coordinated with the Ice Sculpture Art of Harbin as well as the Ice and Snow Culture Design of Qunli New District.

Inaugurated and Opened on January 15, 1909, the Old Synagogue Concert Hall in Harbin was designed by H.A. Katz Gillette. The main hall is a two-storey brick and concrete structure. Its windows and doors were designed with pointed arches and round arches. The building is topped by one large dome and one small dome, raising the Shield of David. All in all, it is a typical Jewish-style building.
