Lhasa, the capital city of the Tibet Autonomous Region, is located in the southwestern region of China, the central part of the Tibetan Plateau, the north side of the Himalayas, and the valley plain in the middle reaches of the Lhasa River, a tributary of the Yarlung Zangbo River. With an altitude of 3,650 meters, Lhasa is rich in various resources. It enjoys sunny weather and little rainfall all year round, with no severe cold in winter nor intense heat in summer, the climate is quite pleasant, and the sunshine lasts more than 3000 hours a year, so it has the reputation of "Sunshine City". As one of the first batch of famous historical and cultural cities in China, Lhasa is famous for its beautiful scenery, long history and unique customs. It is one of the most popular tourist cities for tourists from home and abroad.

Lhasa City is divided into five counties and three districts, namely City Propers, Lhundup County, Damshung County, Nyemo County, Chushur County, Tolun Dechen County, Taktse County, and MedroGongkar County.  Lhasa has long been the political, economic, cultural and religious center of Tibet. It is an ancient city with a history of more than 1,300 years. In 1982, Chinese Government rated it as one of the first 24 national historical and cultural cities.
