School Feeding Program – International Recognition Addis Ababa has championed one of Africa’s most ambitious school feeding programs, ensuring that more than 850,000 thousand of children in public schools receive nutritious meals daily. In addition to school feeding, the city has partnered with philanthropic organizations to address food insecurity among other vulnerable groups. Addis Ababa has established 24 community feeding centers to support 40,000 residents of the city those struggling to afford daily meals, particularly focusing on the elderly who might otherwise face difficulty in meeting their nutritional needs. These community centers play a vital role in extending the city’s support network to those most in need. Her efforts have garnered international recognition, including an award at the Global School Feeding Forum in Rio de Janeiro for her dedication to improving children's health and education.
Addis Ababa city received a prestigious award from C40 Cities for its innovative waste management and environmental sustainability projects, significantly improving waste collection and recycling efforts.
Major Urban Development Projects Guided by a vision for a modern and livable city, the mayor of the city spearheaded corridor development initiatives, the Addis Riverside Project, and large-scale infrastructure enhancements aimed at expanding green spaces, improving transportation, and revitalizing the urban landscape.
ECD, further supporting its development goals, Addis Ababa has introduced an Early Childhood Program that emphasizes comprehensive child development.
