Today, Mobike is proud to be partnering with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to advocate World Cycling Day and promote the development of sustainable transportation. Davis Wang, co-founder and CEO of Mobike met with the UNEP Secretary-General and Executive Director Erik Solheim at Mobike Beijing headquarters for an MOU signing, expressing the mutual commitment to eco-friendly transportation and promoting the ethos that ‘Cycling Changes Cities’. Both parties are excited to work together towards the goal of a greener future.
Davis Wang said:
"We are very proud to launch World Cycling Day with the United Nations Environment Programme. Mobike believes the bicycle can have a big impact on cities, we look forward to being a part of sustainable solutions for more cities around the world.”
Mr. Erik Solheim said:
"The United Nations Environment Programme is delighted to have a strategic partner from China's smart bike-sharing industry like Mobike, which represents technology that is changing the world. We hope to bring green travel and environmental protection ideas to more countries and cities through cooperation with Mobike.”
2017 is the 200th anniversary of the invention of the bicycle as well as a year of rapid innovation in the bike sharing industry. Dockless bikes have contributed to a meaningful increase in cycling as well as making a substantial dent in the world’s carbon footprint. Scheduled for September 17th, World Cycling Day is a time to celebrate the role that bicycles play in offering a smarter, more environmentally conscious means of commuting and exploring our cities. We are thrilled to be collaborating with a diversity of partners to promote the theme of ‘Cycling Changes City’ through organizing events for local residents in Mobike cities across the globe.
Since beginning service just a year ago, Mobike has been at the forefront of the movement to re-introduce bicycles as a celebrated means of urban transport. According to joint research by Mobike and Tsinghua University’s China New Urbanization Research Institute, cycling has become twice as popular within a year of Mobike’s introduction to Chinese cities. As a result, Mobikers reported making 55% fewer trips by car than they did prior to using our bikes.
In June 2017, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) awarded Mobike the first ever Climate Solver Sustainable Urban Mobility Award. This accolade was in recognition of the positive contribution our green technology has made to urban transport solutions. Mobike is also honored to have been named one of Fortune’s 50 Change the World companies that “have had a positive social impact through activities that are part of their core business strategy.”
