Mobike will launch its smart bikeshare scheme in the South Korean city of Suwon later this year. Mobike will launch in partnership with the Suwon City government in alignment with the city's vision of becoming a ‘people-centred, environmentally friendly eco-city’.
Mobike Korea users will be able to enjoy rides at the affordable rate of 500 Korean Won for every 30 minutes.
As the first South Korean city to embrace the smart-bike solution, Suwon will lead on sustainable transport aligning with the nation’s Green New Deal stimulus program. The program is a nationwide commitment to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable growth, two areas that Mobike has already championed in the bike share industry and for cities around the globe. By mid 2017, Mobikers had collectively saved over 1.26million tonnes of CO2.
Suwon city has set a goal of reducing their greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, a goal that is 100% more ambitious than the national target. To reach this goal the city is working hard to expand the infrastructure and availability of cycling as a means of urban transport. Data insights from Mobike’s smart IoT platform can be leveraged to support Suwon city and transportation planners to improve on the existing 350km of bike lanes and existing cycling infrastructure as well as promote greater bike use amongst Suwon residents.
Kim Chul-woo, Manager of Road Management Division, City of Suwon said:
“Suwon is keen on integrating energy efficiency and low carbon technologies with smart cities innovations for a better urban environment. Supporting Mobike’s launch in our city not only increases the cooperation between government and business, but also contributes greatly to our city’s eco-mobility landscape.”
Hu Weiwei, Founder of Mobike, said:
“Mobike’s smart bike-share service is an urban mobility solution designed to fulfill the eco ambitions of smart cities by providing residents with a convenient and sustainable mode of transport. As a model eco-city in Korea and the region at large, Suwon is core to the nation’s sustainable development, and we are pleased to be working side-by-side with the city government to bring the city one step closer to realizing its ambitions for a smarter, greener city.”
