Sites, Museums and Famous People of Zagorje

Zagreb is in an ideal position for various excursions, and it is only an hour's drive to Zagorje.

Zagorje is located in the northwestern part of Croatia and stretches from the top of Ivančica in the north, Medvednica in the southeast and the Slovenian border in the west. Apart from the iconic nature that is dotted with hills and often vineyards, Zagorje is rich in history, culture and art.

The Krapina Neanderthal Museum testifies to the early history of this area, interpreting the phenomenon of human origin in an interactive way. It is located not far from the world famous site Hušnjakovo.

Josip Broz Tito's native village, the famous Kumrovec, was the inspiration for the Museum "Staro selo" Kumrovec, the largest traditionally decorated space in Croatia, which evokes the appearance of a Zagorje village from the beginning of the 20th century.

The feudal castle of Veliki Tabor, at the top of Košnički Hum, is one of the most important cultural and historical monuments of continental Croatia, built in the 15th century, which today can be seen and enjoy the historical stories of Hrvatsko Zagorje and Europe.

You can find out all about one of the most famous sculptors in Europe in the 20th century in Klanjec, the birthplace of Antun Augustinčić, and the gallery of the same name. One of his most famous works is located next to the Oršić castle, where the Peasants' Revolt Museum is located.

The Museum of the City of Pregrada named after Dr. Zlatko Dragutin Tudjina has plenty to show on numismatics, mining and geology and pharmacy in the area of Hrvatsko zagorje throughout history. There are also the Museum Radboa and the Oldtimer Museum Presečki.
