【Introduction】:Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport opens Terminal D-West Pier, enhancing global connectivity with new gates and over 250 jobs in dining and retail.

After five years of construction and over a billion dollars in investment, the Houston Airport System has announced the opening of Terminal D-West Pier at Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport on 22 October.

"The opening of the Terminal D-West Pier is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team and our partners," said Jim Szczesniak, Director of Aviation for Houston Airports, in a statement. "This world-class facility will provide a seamless and efficient travel experience for millions of passengers each year. The new pier will provide the necessary capacity so Houston can continue to attract more nonstop flights to cities around the globe."

The international terminal's expansion will create over 250 jobs across 16 new dining and retail locations, including local restaurants such as The Annie Café and Bar. The new terminal will feature gates D1-D6, designed to accommodate wide-body aircraft capable of flying farther without the need for refuelling, thereby enhancing Houston’s global connectivity. The construction of Terminal D-West Pier is part of the $1.458 billion IAH Terminal Redevelopment Program (ITRP), which aims to modernise and improve the airport’s international travel facilities. Other major components of this investment programme include the refurbishment of the existing Terminal D, completed in 2023, and the construction of a new International Central Processor (ICP), set for completion over the next year.

With the Houston Airport System already experiencing record travel volumes at both IAH and William P. Hobby Airport (HOU), this latest expansion is set to further enhance the city’s international connectivity and bolster its position as a world-class destination.
