In collaboration with Miguel Hidalgo Municipality Mobike is launching a smart bike-share pilot in Mexico City. This much-anticipated launch is the first Latin American city for Mobike and the beginning of operations in Mexico more widely.

The initial fleet will be placed in the Anáhuac, Granada and Polanco neighborhoods of Mexico City. These strategic locations have been selected planned and launched together with Miguel Hidalgo’s Delegation Chief Xóchitl Gálvez and city planners; to pioneer smart bikeshare and bring convenient and accessible transportation to local communities.

The Miguel Hidalgo Municipality provides a perfect environment to pilot and collect feedback from users. The learnings gained here will provide the groundwork to build a tailored transport solution for Mexico City. As users and demand increase the service will expand across Mexico City and other cities in Mexico and Latin America.

Chris Martin, VP of Global Expansion at Mobike, said:

“We’re thrilled to arrive in Mexico, our first Latin American city. Mobike is committed to developing a global bikeshare culture by collaborating closely with cities – Mexico City and the Miguel Hidalgo Municipality have been incredibly proactive partners. We look forward to working with more municipalities within the city and other Mexican cities to make cycling the most convenient, affordable, and environmentally-friendly transportation option.”

Xóchitl Gálvez, Delegation Chief at Miguel Hidalgo Municipality, said:

“The city needs people to stop using cars and start using bicycles. For that to happen, citizens need to have more options. We are truly excited to welcome Mobike at Miguel Hidalgo. We are implementing 50 bike parking zones around Miguel Hidalgo. We fully expect the Mobike program to make strides in convincing people to start using this sustainable transport method. Promoting responsible bike-sharing usage is a top priority and we will encourage users to ride safely and park their bikes in the appropriate places.”

Mobikers in Mexico City will be able to register and ride within a matter of seconds using their smartphones.

Riders simply need to register on the Mobike app and pay a one-time fully-refundable deposit of $299 pesos. Users will be charged the affordable price of $5 pesos for 30 minutes, and have the possibility to make an annual payment of $399 pesos. Mobikers can look forward to many exciting new promotions as the service expands into other municipalities and cities in the coming months!
