In cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme, Mobike is participating in the “Clean Air Week” at the 2018 Asia-Pacific Clean Air Partnership Joint Forum in Bangkok, Thailand, from March 21st to 22nd, 2018.

Mobike, the dockless bike share pioneer, will discuss how its innovative model can improve air quality, promote more sustainable lifestyles, and offer solutions to pressing environmental issues in many cities around the world, including Bangkok. The event, gathering key decision makers from the entire South-East Asian region. At the event, Mobike and UNEP continue their collaboration stemming from their global Memorandum of Understanding signed in Beijing between Mobike Founder Hu Weiwei and UN Environment Executive Director Erik Solheim in September 2017.

During Clean Air Week, Mobike also joined the Asia-Pacific Low-Carbon Lifestyles Challenge, which invites young people from all walks of life in the Asia-Pacific region to present ideas aimed at reducing (1) plastic waste, (2) energy consumption and (3) overall carbon footprint. The winners will receive a grant to implement their ideas.

The Asia-Pacific Low-Carbon Lifestyles Challenge is aligned with the objectives of 2 other UN Environment initiatives, the Asia-Pacific Roadmap on Sustainable Consumption and Production, and the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production. Both are aimed at identifying the sustainability needs and priorities of Asia Pacific countries at national and regional levels.

Clean Air Week also aims to strengthen the link between new and existing cooperation to bring about lasting solutions to environmental concerns and promote sustainable lifestyles. Forum discussions will offer insights into progress being made towards reducing pollution in the Asia Pacific region.

At the 2018 Asia-Pacific Clean Air Partnership Joint Forum, Mobike shared its entrepreneurial vision at a session on “Innovating financing and regulatory frameworks for improving air quality,” and discussed potential measures needed to drive public and private investment toward achieving cleaner air. The session aimed to provide advice for young entrepreneurs, activists, and government workers on how to facilitate and implement the aforementioned roadmap and framework of the UNEP.

Mark Lin, Mobike’s Head of International Operations representing Mobike at the joint forum said:

“It is extremely inspiring to see so many young people from the Asia Pacific region generating and pursuing their own innovative solutions to climate change, and taking steps to bring them into the mainstream. This is reminds us of how Mobike got its start with our founders hand-assembling our first batch of 50 bikes just two years ago, and growing that fleet to over 9 million today. The world urgently needs these young sustainability champions to help lead the way into a future with cleaner air and greater sustainability”.
