Jozankei is a paradise of hot springs of which the opening dates back to the second half of the 19th century. Nowadays, tourists in Sapporo can travel between the city area and Jozankei in just one day. Lovers of the outdoor hot springs can pay a visit to Hoheikyo Onsen that has a bath encircled by rocks. You may immerse your body in the hot water while having a brilliant view of the old waterwheel and the woods nearby. Another site in the same area, named Yunohana, also boasts an outdoor bath facing the hill covered by trees.

Jozankei is also known for its paths on the hills. With a gorgeous landscape and an amicable climate in May, these paths are considered ideal for hikers. After coming down the hills, tourists who want to rest their feet can have a foot bath. Jozan Onsen Park established in 2005 does have a hot spring pool for weary feet, surrounded by trees showing different colors depending on the season. In May, thanks to Hokkaido's high latitude and the consequential late-blooming season, you can even enjoy cherry blossoms while having a foot bath.

In addition to the baths with natural features, the local modernized hot spring hotels are also sufficient to meet the needs of tourists coming to Sapporo for hot springs. By the way, Jozankei also has a pool for making hot spring eggs. You can make this hot-spring-themed delicacy after buying a bag of raw eggs at the souvenir shop nearby.
