WTCF Attends 9th China Tourism Industry Development Annual Conference

On 16 January, Li Baochun, Executive Deputy Secretary-General of the World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF), was invited to attend the 9th China Tourism Industry Development Annual Conference where he delivered a keynote speech. Approved by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People's Republic of China, directed by China Newspaper Association and hosted by China Tourism News, the annual conference, with the theme of "Recovery, Revitalization and Development", was aimed at restoring confidence in the tourism industry, exploring the industry's development trends in the new context, and fully promoting high-quality development of the tourism industry. Du Jiang, Member of the Party Leadership Group of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Vice Minister of Culture and Tourism, and Zhang Jianxing, Chairman of China Newspaper Association, also attended and addressed the annual conference.

The conference

The year 2023 marks a significant year for high-level recovery and high-quality development of tourism. Inbound and outbound tourism, which has been stagnant for nearly three years, will also usher in orderly recovery and prosperity. How to do a good job in international cultural and tourism communication is now high on the agenda for the industry. Offering his proposals, Li Baochun said in his speech that it is necessary to identify the needs in the mass tourism era, create a "golden name card" for urban tourism development, encourage positive interplay between culture and tourism and advance in-depth integration of the two sectors, build new tourism industry models, adhere to ecological priority and green development, bolster sustainable tourism development, ensure tourism safety, and embark on a new path of safe travels.

Meanwhile, WTCF, China Tourism News, and the Institute of Journalism & Communication of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences jointly launched the Action Plan on Global Exchanges and Promotion of Sino-Foreign Tourism at the annual conference. The plan aims to revitalize and develop the tourism industry by organizing Sino-foreign tourism exchange activities, holding international tourism communication forums, carrying out training on international tourism communication, establishing expert databases on international tourism communication, releasing the international tourism communication power index, and providing support and services for overseas social media communication.
