Paris in France solidified its position as a top global tourism destination in 2024, attracting over 70 million visitors throughout the year. This success was attributed to major events such as hosting the Summer Olympics and the highly anticipated reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral in December.

Surge in International Arrivals

From November 1 to December 8, international air arrivals to Paris increased by 15.4% compared to 2023, reaching 1.3 million. Excluding the Middle East (-5.6%) and Central America (-2.3%), international visitors from all other regions traveled to Paris in higher numbers. Notably, Southern Europe contributed 376,000 arrivals (+8%), North America 191,000 arrivals (+19%), and Northern Europe 174,000 arrivals (+21%).

The 2024 Summer Olympics played a pivotal role in driving this growth. According to Sabre Corporation, international arrivals surged by 33% during the first week of the Games, with key source markets including New York and Tokyo.

Increased Consumer Spending

Visa reported a 42% increase in international cardholders visiting Paris during the first week of the Olympics compared to the same period in 2023. U.S. visitors led the spending surge, with an impressive 72% year-on-year growth. Olympic attendees spent 20% more than non-attendees, with restaurant expenditures showing the highest annual increase of 49%.

Impact on the Hospitality Sector

The heightened demand significantly boosted hotel prices in Paris. During the Olympic period, room rates rose by 300%, with the average nightly price reaching €700, compared to €170 in 2023.

Paris’s momentum is expected to continue into 2025. The city has maintained its top position in Euromonitor International’s **Top 100 City Destinations Index** for the fourth consecutive year, reinforcing its global appeal.
