Edinburgh: Historic City's Wonders Behind the Screen

Over the past decade, Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland has been drawing attentions from film production companies. Towering castles, magnificent hills and tranquil firth are, more than just destinations favored by tourists, ideal filming locations for a number of movies.

The theatrical romance named One Day premiering in 2011 made Edinburgh one of the cities of romance. One of its filming spots is the Arthur's Seat, a 186-meter-high hill located in the northern part of Edinburgh. The male and female protagonists of One Day climbs up the hill and overlook the whole city and the Firth of Forth bordering the city on the north. During winters, heavy snow coats the Arthur's Seat in white, making the hill even shinier under the sunshine infiltrating through the clouds. The hill is also the best location for watching sunrise in winters.

Chariots of Fire released in 1981 tells the stories of two athletes dedicated themselves to the coming Olympic Games. In one of its scenes, one protagonist races up the stairway to the Assembly Hall, which was built in the mid 19^th century. This Neo-Gothic-style hall still serves as a venue for regularly-held art events, drawing attentions of locals and non-native tourists.

Edinburgh is also among the destinations chosen for shooting Avengers: Infinity War in which the superheroes and villains fight ferociously in the city's old town. In reality, the Old Town is also known for its intriguing attractions. From David Hume's peculiar statue to the haunted Mary King's Close, there is always something capturing your mind. During your visit there, don't forget to order a glass of whisky at one of local bars. This alcoholic drink with a strong flavor is highly favored by local residents.
