Busan: A Visit to the Colorful Mountain Village

We were always fascinated by colorful things like flowers, balloons and toy blocks when we were young. There is indeed a colorful village in Busan, South Korea. It is not a fairyland mentioned in fairy tales, but it is still an imagination-inspiring place where tourists, or almost all of its tourists, can regain childlike feelings.

Gamcheon Culture Village is located on a hillside in the south of Busan, with its houses arranged in a stepped pattern due to the local geographical condition. Since being selected for the "Village Art Project" in South Korea in 2009, many artists have painted the exterior walls and roofs of the houses, and set up several colorful sculptures at notable locations in the village, forming a scenic area with a fairy-tale-like atmosphere.

Tourists strolling in the village can easily have the delusion that they are in a picture storybook they read when they were kids since the walls of the houses are painted in this style. Some of the steps in the village are painted with patterns of book spines, contributing to the fantastic ambiance. On a high platform in the village, tourists can not only overlook the entire village but also encounter the sculptures of "The Little Prince" and "Desert Fox". The fish-shaped wall decoration at the entrance and the human-headed bird sculptures inside the village are also something worth photo-taking.
