Carnival Cruise Line will introduce a vegan menu in its dining rooms fleetwide by the end of the year.
Created by Carnival chefs, each item is prepared without the use of animal products, according to the line, with some items made using meat substitutes.
The menu includes three vegan appetizers, including Hawaiian poke using plant-based salmon, mushrooms stuffed with plant-based cheese and spinach and spaghetti carbonara made with vegan bacon.
Entrees include a grilled tofu steak, baked vegetable au gratin using plant-based cheeses and eggplant a la parmigiana with vegan mozzarella.
The dessert menu includes vegan key lime velvet cake, Dutch double chocolate pave with a buttercream frosting and cappuccino pot de creme.
The Carnival Magic, sailing out of Norfolk, Va., was the first ship to pilot the menu. The vegan options are now also available on the Carnival Freedom out of Port Canaveral, Fla., and the Carnival Horizon from PortMiami. The Carnival Dream will adopt the menu next, followed by Carnival Valor, Carnival Radiance, Carnival Miracle, Carnival Panorama and Mardi Gras by the end of September.
By the end of October, the Carnival Celebration, Carnival Sunrise, Carnival Glory, Carnival Conquest, Carnival Vista, Carnival Breeze, Carnival Sunshine and Carnival Elation will carry the menu.
The Carnival Legend, Carnival Venezia and Carnival Jubilee will offer the vegan menu by year's end.
