The first flight between the Estonian and Czech capitals took to the skies on 31 March, operated by German value carrier Eurowings. Initially there will be three direct flights a week to Prague, rising to four in May: on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

The Tallinn-Prague route has been one of the most sought after for many years among passengers, who to date have had to fly to the Czech capital via hub airports. Tallinn Airport's Head of Marketing and Communication Margot Holts says the addition of direct flights to Prague adds much to its portfolio of destinations. "Prague is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, and business ties between Estonia and Czechia have been growing in recent years," she remarked. "For those reasons and more, we're delighted to have fulfilled one of our passengers' biggest wishes in offering these direct flights."

Tallinn Airport is also delighted to be served by another new airline, with Eurowings operating the flights on the Tallinn-Prague route. Negotiations with the German value carrier lasted for a number of years. Still relatively unknown on the Estonian market, Eurowings forms part of the Lufthansa Group and offers flights to around 150 destinations within Europe. It has a fleet of almost 100 aircraft and employs close to 5000 people.

"Our future plans with Eurowings will depend on how successful the Prague flights are," Holts explained. "We hope they see opportunities to launch routes between Tallinn and other destinations as well, including in Germany, where the airline has an extensive network."

Those travelling from Tallinn Airport have more than 50 direct-flight destinations to choose from this summer: Amsterdam, Antalya, Athens, Barcelona, Berlin, Billund**, Bodrum, Burgas*, Brussels, Catania, Copenhagen, Corfu, Dubai*, Dublin, Dubrovnik, Enfidha, Faro, Frankfurt, Funchal, Gran Canaria, Helsinki, Heraklion, Hurghada, Istanbul, Kärdla, Kuressaare, Kutaisi, Lamezia, Larnaca, London (Gatwick, Luton & Stansted), Malaga, Malta**, Mattala [Sri Lanka], Milan (Bergamo & Malpensa), Munich, Nice, Oslo, Paphos, Paris (Charles de Gaulle & Orly), Prague*, Rhodes, Riga, Rome**, Sharm El-Sheikh, Split, Stockholm, Tampere, Tenerife, Tivat, Venice (Treviso), Vienna, Vilnius, Warsaw & Zürich.
