【Introduction】:Rome's Trevi Fountain reopens after renovation, showcasing its Baroque splendor. Visitor limits and new measures aim to preserve its cultural significance and enhance tourist experience.

Rome’s iconic Trevi Fountain has reopened after a three-month restoration, aligning with preparations for the 2025 Jubilee Holy Year, which is expected to draw millions of visitors to the city of Italy.

The restoration, costing 327,000 euros focused on cleaning the 18th-century Baroque monument, removing accumulated dirt, pollution, and limescale to restore its original splendor.

To manage the anticipated influx of tourists and prevent overcrowding, city officials have implemented new access measures. The fountain area is now limited to 400 visitors at a time. Visitors are required to book online and pay a 2 euros entry fee for a 30-minute visit. These measures aim to enhance the visitor experience and preserve the monument’s integrity.

During the restoration, a temporary walkway allowed tourists to observe the cleaning process up close. The tradition of tossing coins into the fountain, believed to ensure a return to Rome, continued via a makeshift pool. This ritual generates approximately 1.5 million euros annually, which has been donated to the Catholic charity Caritas for the past 15 years.

The Trevi Fountain, completed in 1762, is a masterpiece of late Baroque architecture and a symbol of Rome’s rich cultural heritage. Designed by Nicola Salvi and adorned with intricate sculptures, including the central figure of Oceanus, the god of all water, the fountain embodies the artistic grandeur of its era. Beyond its architectural significance, the Trevi Fountain holds a special place in popular culture, notably featuring in Federico Fellini’s film “La Dolce Vita,” which has further cemented its status as a cultural landmark.

The reopening of the Trevi Fountain is a significant milestone in Rome’s efforts to prepare for the Jubilee Year, reflecting the city’s commitment to preserving its cultural heritage while accommodating modern tourism demands. These measures are expected to enhance the visitor experience and ensure the monument’s preservation for future generations.
